The Pittsburgh Racial Justice Summit (PRJS), formerly known as the Summit Against Racism, is a multi-day conference of the Black & White Reunion designed to educate and activate Pittsburgh organizers to act on behalf of racial justice. The Summit, first held in 1996, was convened in response to the murder of Jonny Gammage in 1995 at the hands of four white police officers of a Pittsburgh suburb. This year’s Summit, the 23rd, will be held online January 22-January 24, 2021.
PRJS is looking for a well organized, committed and enthusiastic individual to join the 2021 team. This position is a temporary remote role beginning October 1, 2020 and ending mid-February 2021. The PRJS Virtual Event Organizer is supervised by the core Planning Committee members.
The right candidate will have organizing experience both digital and “on the ground”. As the PRJS Virtual Event Organizer, you will transform our newsletter, social media and additional marketing materials using powerful storytelling and creative campaigns as well as lead meetings and manage volunteers.
PRJS is a grassroots, mostly volunteer-led group with the YWCA as our fiscal sponsor.
The ideal candidate should have the following:
- Related organizing work experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including relationship building skills.
- Strong facilitation experience.
- Ability to work well in collaboration with folks from different backgrounds and experiences.
- Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills.
- The ability to develop, implement, and manage social media strategy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Mailchimp.
- Some expertise in graphic design using Canva. Photoshop is a plus but not required.
- Proficient in social media marketing tools such as Hootsuite.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in the development, implementation, management, and execution of a virtual town hall (Dec, 2020) and a virtual conference.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for the PRJS Virtual Summit.
- Preparing promotional/outreach key messages for the Summit.
- Design and creation of graphics for PRJS and initiatives.
- Monitor website and clearly convey needed updates to the website committee lead.
- Have regular and frequent contact and check-ins with core Planning Committee, Lead Committee Members, such as Workshop, Volunteer, etc.
- Create the social media editorial calendar and serves as the primary point of contact for social media needs.
- Create a daily presence on social media platforms and tools; posting, reposting, scheduling, responding to comments.
- Responsible for building, writing content and maintaining all social media platforms
This is a remote position. All meetings and the virtual conference itself will be hosted on a Zoom platform. The time commitment ranges from 15 – 18 hours a week in September, October, November and December with an increase in hours (up to 25 hours a week) closer to the weekend of the Summit, January 23, 2021. The stipend for this position is $3,000.
